Paper Session AsiaBSDCon 2010. Abstract: As the proliferation, trust and the importance of rich digital formats have increased over the years, so have demands on the capacity of data storage. But the backup technologies have not followed this trend. The Towers of Hanoi timestamp traditional methodology based backup can not handle the volume of data and backup windows have been significantly reduced due to the economy 24 hours online. This method also saves the same content repeatedly, even if the content has not changed. This results in a flood of data transfer that can overwhelm networks and other essential resources. During the same period of time the disk technology has progressed by leaps and bounds, both in performance and, above all, reliability. In comparison with the disks, tape technology is still relatively slow and the media tend to deteriorate over time. In addition, there are hardware compatibility issues future try to match a shade band on a tape drive to work, not to mention physical problems such as offline labeling and physical storage.
